About us
The media self-regulation initiative was launched in January 2007, when the Yerevan Press Club appealed to the Armenian journalistic community, inviting them to jointly develop the basic norms of professional ethics. As a result of this initiative, the Media Code of Conduct was adopted, which later became the Code of Ethical Principles of Armenian Media and Journalists, the Media Ethics Observatory was created and was tasked with examining the compliance of the member media outlets actions and publications with the provisions of the Code, the Working Procedure of the Media Observatory was adopted.
Code of ethical principles
As of today, 85 Armenian media outlets have signed the Code of Ethical Principles of Armenian Media and Journalists, and 8 journalistic unions support the initiative.
The mission of the Media Ethics Observatory is to investigate complaints regarding violations of the Code and to
judgments based on the results of the investigations.
The Operating Procedure of the Media Ethics Observatory was adopted on December 13, 2009, after which it underwent some changes and amendments. The current version of the Operating Procedure, with the latest amendments and additions, was ratified at

The presence of the ethics icon on the organization’s website guarantees the media’s accountability and transparency to the public and certifies its willingness to adhere to quality journalistic standards.
The media bearing the ethics icon are obliged to follow the principles of professional ethics, to accept and publish the conclusions of the Media Ethics Observatory, as a result of the examination of citizens’ and organizations’ complaints.
